Do a google search for “surveys” and you will find hundreds of them, most of them offering huge money for just a few minutes of your time. Can you really make 100 bucks an hour by answering a few questions? Can you really receive cool items in the mail for only the cost of your opinion? Are surveys a realistic way to make money?
The answer to that last question is yes…and no. Surveys are great for making money, and there are a few very legitimate places that do offer free items and cash for offering your opinions. So you can make money…but can you make enough money to live on and stay at home with your kids?
The answer to that is: Probably not.
There are reputable companies out there that will pay you, but don’t expect to find more than a few dollars per survey. For the more extensive surveys (for instance, if you are asked to try out a particular brand of laundry detergent and the test takes a few weeks), you will be paid more money. But even if you took surveys all day long, the odds of being able to pay the bills with survey money alone are very, very slim.
Keep in mind that you should never have to pay for surveys. If any site asks you for money to answer their questions, click away – fast! These places might wind up sending you a few dollars, but they will quickly find new ways to charge you for even bigger surveys…and in the end, you get taken for cash you didn’t need to send them in the first place. It’s the survey scam!
Even if you do find legitimate survey companies, the money they offer is paltry compared to what you would be making at any other home-based job. For instance, I spent a week taking surveys on various sites that promised good money for doing so. In the end, I found that only two of them lived up to their promises – and even then, the checks I received a few weeks later for for 10.00 and 5.00. That’s fifteen bucks for taking long, complicated surveys that demanded a few hours of my time. That’s less than minimum wage!
The bottom line: If you want to take surveys for fun, because you’re curious or bored out of your mind, have at it. Just don’t expect to make any substantial money while doing it!
